Halloween

Halloween is one of my all-time favorite holidays.  I love dressing up, decorating the house with creepy crawlies, and of course the awesome treats.  Here are a few photos from current Halloween activities and a couple good ones from the past.

A fun welcome sign that I found at Kroger.  They always have cute holiday themed stuff at their store that I can’t resist.

A few days ago we hung out with Marty’s sister and her family and carved some pumpkins.  My hubby and I teamed up: I drew the designs on the pumpkin while he carved them out.  I liked doing it that way and I think we may have started a new tradition. ;-)

Last year we held an animal themed Halloween party.  The inspiration was the song "What Does the Fox Say?"  I was obsessed, hehe.  I even found a cute fox costume!  We are keeping Halloween more low-key this year.

My Halloween nails for this year that I decorated myself. :)

I love to bake and make fun treats, so that is one of my favorite parts about Halloween.  A few years ago there was a scary food contest where I worked and this was my entry: edible intestines.  Muahahaha!  You can find the recipe here at wannabite.com (I used Nutella and peanut butter for the filling instead of frosting and chocolate chips).  Let me tell you, once you get past the ick factor, it was delicious!  A friend suggested making this with cinnamon rolls.  I think I might have to try that.  I will let you know how it turns out!

I hope you all have a fun and scary Halloween! :)

Pregnancy Update: Weeks 24-26

Wow - time flies! It's been a whole month since I posted a pregnancy update!  It's been a very busy month for us.  I was out in Austin a couple weeks ago for ACL and we traveled to upstate NY to visit family last weekend.  It was all very fun, but I think our travel days are over until this baby gets here.  Only 3 more months to go!  Here is a look at the last month.

At 24 weeks, we had to visit a high-risk doctor.  We had to do another ultrasound 2 weeks after the gender one to get clearer pictures of some of her organs for the doctor.  For some reason they were measuring her as having a drop in weight from the 20th percentile to the 11th.  The doctor thought it was probably a bad measurement, possibly due to the baby's position, but wanted to make sure.  Since I was feeling her moving around a lot and my belly was measuring where it should, I wasn't too worried.  Turns out, the baby is completely fine.  She was actually measuring in the 40th percentile for weight.  So while I'm still with my regular OB, now I have to go to the high-risk doctor for any ultrasounds, which is kind of annoying, but I'm happy to make sure the baby is ok.  Here are a couple ultrasound pictures.  Check out that cute profile!

I was unaware that I was pregnant back in April when I bought my ACL ticket.  I still wanted to go, as my last "crazy" weekend before the baby.  I went with my best friend Melissa and her husband (my hubby is not a fan of music festivals, haha).  We were sure to get some fun bump pics, like the one above, which was in front of some artwork they had there, and the one below.   If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen the next 2 pictures. :)

I saw that they were selling these cute onesies and had a matching adult shirt at ACL.  I couldn't resist getting a little memento from baby girl's first music festival.

Last week, at 26 weeks, we were in NY.  It was such a fun trip and I'm sad I couldn't stay longer.  I loved seeing my family and I even got to see some friends from high school.  Also, the fall foliage was gorgeous!  I was looking forward to cooler weather, but it ended up being a bit colder than we expected!  The average temps were 45-50 each day.  It was a refreshing change from the Texas heat though. :)

This week I hit 27 weeks, aka 6 months.  I have the dreaded glucose test today at my doctor appointment.  I'll have an update and bump picture up next week!

#MonthlyMani: Think Pink

This month's theme for our #MonthlyMani link-up was Think Pink in honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I like to use these monthly mani posts to experiment with different nail polish techniques and this month is no different.  I decided to do a random dot design using different color pinks over a white background.

{Pure Ice Tease, OPI Suzi's Hungary Again, CHI Ring Around the Roses, OPI Tutti Frutti Tonga, Pure Ice Super Star}

I started out with 2 coats of white.

Next I used a Q-tip to add some dots of one shade of pink.

Then I added more dots of the other shades of pink with the Q-tip.  I tried to make them as random as possible.

They didn't photograph well, but they look pretty cool in person.  It's almost like a watercolor effect.  It kind of reminds me of a Monet, only with pink instead of green and blue.  I think it would be fun to try an ombre effect next time with the dot technique.

I also did these pink nails a couple months ago.  They would've worked great for this month's theme too. :)

Check out how the other ladies did their nails:

Kristi from Alligator Toe
Piniel from Pins-Place
Justine from The Two Cent Chick
Jacki and Lesli from Sistas from Cali
Marlena from Here, Pretty Kitty
Tracy-Ann from Mint Statement

I'm So Fancy

I know, the title probably got that song stuck in your head, hehe...sorry.  It's exactly how I felt in this dress though and I was excited that it was stretchy enough to fit my bump.  So, for the time being, I have one super nice dress to wear out! :)

Also, speaking of that song, have any of you seen the parody of it called I'm So Pregnant?  It's hilarious, especially if you are currently pregnant or have been in the past.  Check it out here when you have a chance.

I love how the back of this dress comes to a V!

This is really funny - I was looking through my blog postings for some stats and I came across this post that I had started back in July but never published!  I don't know what happened, whether I was distracted or just plain forgot (maybe I can blame this on pregnancy brain since it was about a month after I found out I was expecting, haha).  But anyways, here it is, as a #ThrowBackThursday if you will.  I was about 2 months along at this point but not really showing. :)

Striped Maxi with Chambray

When I put this outfit together in my head, I was really hoping I could pull it off because none of this clothing is maternity!  While I have finally embraced maternity clothing and am consistently wearing it, I still like to work in the chunky sweaters and stretchy tops that still fit the bump somehow.  I still plan on wearing items from my pre-preggers wardrobe as long as they will fit, to give me more options.  The chambray button-up definitely wouldn't fit if I had to button it, but it works like this over another top! :)

Chunky Sweater

Houston actually seemed to pay attention to when Fall was supposed to start this year.  While it's nothing like a fall in the northeast where I grew up, it's been quite a bit cooler with absolutely gorgeous weather.  All I want to do lately is hang outside with the dogs and enjoy this amazing weather while it lasts.  :)

This cooler weather has helped my outfit inspiration.  I was getting rather frustrated for awhile with my shrinking wardrobe (hence the lack of posts) and missing all my regular clothes that I couldn't wear anymore.  Luckily sweaters are more forgiving and perfect for Fall!  I just love a good chunky sweater.  Also, I bought more maternity clothes over the weekend.

These shoes were an amazing find at a sample sale held at BHLDN on rainy Saturday morning last summer.  I have dubbed them my "pretty Uggs" even though they are not Uggs at all.  I love that they give that vibe though and look perfect for the fall/winter time of year.

Shoes ~ Bettye Muller
Purse ~ Kate Spade
Earrings ~ ?? (similar)
Ring ~ Aldo (loving this one and this one)
