Pregnancy Update: Weeks 34 - 38

I have been slacking in my update posts!  So here is a month's worth of news and photos.  At least I have been good about taking the weekly photos. :)

As I mentioned in the last post, I suspected baby girl had moved into a head down position.  That was confirmed by the doctor.  So now she is in the right position for birth, and I hope she stays that way.  My biggest fear is that she'll move into a breech position, but honestly I don't think there is enough room for her to move back.

I had my last 2 baby showers during my 35th week: my Houston family and friends shower and one at work.  My dear friend Laura made the wreath below ~ isn't it amazing?!  I can't wait to take a picture of baby girl in front of it when she gets here!  We got lots of goodies at the showers and I'm still working on organizing them into the nursery.  Both showers were beautiful.  I am so spoiled by my friends and family.  I will post some baby shower pics in a future post.

Basically at this point, baby girl is packing on as much fat as she can and her lungs and brain are finishing their development.  Everything else is just about ready to go!  It was reassuring to make it to this point since babies have a high survival rate if anything were to happen and she had to be born early.

Over the past 3 weeks we finished all of our baby classes.  We took infant CPR, the hospital birthing class, and a breastfeeding class.  They were all really informative and we had great instructors.  I feel a little bit better about how everything is going to go with this new knowledge! :)

Now that I'm down to the last month, I have to start visiting the doctor every week.  It is crazy how often it feels like I have dr appointments.  At 36 weeks she checked me and I was not dilated - not surprising.

At my last doctor appointment (37 weeks) the doctor checked again and I am 1 cm dilated!  (So exciting, haha.)  So technically that means I am in the first stage of labor.  From what I learned in birthing class, women can be in this stage of labor for over a month.  It really doesn't mean anything until active labor starts.  Marty loves the idea of telling people that I am in labor already.  He is so silly. :)

I love the shirt I'm wearing above.  It says "Tis the season to be pregnant."  It would get a good amount of chuckles whenever I wore it.  It's a bummer the holidays are over, because it was one of my most comfortable shirts.  At 37 weeks, I am technically at full term, although the next 3 weeks are still important for baby girl's brain and lung development.

Eek ~ as of yesterday, I am 38 weeks and only have about 2 weeks left!  It is unreal how fast this journey has gone by.  I'm still comfortable for the most part and am not in any rush to start labor, ha.  I got a labor prep massage last Friday with my doula.  It helps open and loosen the hips to facilitate easier passage for the baby.  My doula said that my hips are tight and that I really need to work on loosening them before baby comes.  So I've been doing different stretches on my exercise ball each night.  I have another labor prep massage this Friday, so hopefully I have good news that my stretching has made a difference.  Having looser hips will help labor go faster, so I want to get them as loose as possible! :)

I know I promised nursery pics in my last post, but we are not quite done yet and I want to finish up the last couple of things before posting pics.  We are going to try to finish it up tonight, and if we do, I will have pics for you tomorrow!  I'm so excited to share it with you!

One last thing ~ some of you have asked if we have picked out a name yet.  We have a couple that we like, but have not decided on one yet.  We are probably going to wait until we see her to make the final decision.  So, you will find out her name when she makes her debut!

#TBT ~ Colorful

This is really funny - I was looking through my blog postings for some stats and I came across this post that I had started back in July but never published!  I don't know what happened, whether I was distracted or just plain forgot (maybe I can blame this on pregnancy brain since it was about a month after I found out I was expecting, haha).  But anyways, here it is, as a #ThrowBackThursday if you will.  I was about 2 months along at this point but not really showing. :)

Striped Maxi with Chambray

When I put this outfit together in my head, I was really hoping I could pull it off because none of this clothing is maternity!  While I have finally embraced maternity clothing and am consistently wearing it, I still like to work in the chunky sweaters and stretchy tops that still fit the bump somehow.  I still plan on wearing items from my pre-preggers wardrobe as long as they will fit, to give me more options.  The chambray button-up definitely wouldn't fit if I had to button it, but it works like this over another top! :)

Pregnancy Update: Weeks 21 - 23

I'm a little behind on my pregnancy updates, so I am posting 3 weeks' worth today! :)  We were in Costa Rica for Week 21.  It was a fun trip and I'll be sure to post more pics from that later.  The pregnancy really didn't affect the trip other than I couldn't do a couple excursions like zip lining.  But we were still able to hike the volcano and do lots of other fun stuff, so I didn't feel like I was missing out at all.  Here I am by one of the gorgeous beaches on the Pacific side.

Here is a bump pic by the Arenal Volcano.

As you may have seen a couple posts back, we found out during Week 22 that we are having a girl and had a lot of fun with the gender reveal party that we threw for our family and friends.

I'm feeling like a beached whale lately.  I can't imagine getting much bigger than this, but I know it's going to happen, haha.

Other than my expanding girth, I haven't felt too different from past weeks.  I have started to get lower back pain if I don't focus on my posture when I'm sitting or if I've been standing for too long.  It's annoying, but luckily hasn't been too bad.  I have gotten heart palpitations on occasion too, which is completely normal for pregnancy, but kind of scary to experience.  Another interesting thing is that I've been able to sleep through the night the past few weeks without having to get up to go to the bathroom.  I thought it got worse as the pregnancy went on (and maybe it will) but for now I am enjoying sleeping better.

On a possible TMI note, my chest has like doubled in size from pre-pregnancy ~ I swear.  It's ridiculous.  I had a couple button up tops that were flowy enough to fit over my belly, but unexpectedly I could not wear them because they were too tight in the chest area.  I never in a million years thought that I would ever have that problem! Haha :-p

I have another doctor appointment today so I will report back on how that goes.  I have been really good about keeping my weight in check this month (and cutting back on the sweets, hehe) so hopefully everything will look good!

Striped Maxi

Well, as I suspected in earlier posts, I finally had to cave in and buy some maternity clothes over the weekend.  I only got a couple things, and I know I will have to get more soon.  I'm still trying to get the most out of my current closet though and holding out as long as possible before I actually wear any of the maternity clothes I bought.  I don't know why I am being so weird about it.  Haha.  Anyways, before I feature any of the maternity clothes, here is another maxi dress that is a great transition piece that will hopefully last me through most of the pregnancy.

Weeks 16 and 17: Embracing the Bump!

Since I missed last week's update, here's a look at the last 2 weeks.  I can no longer hide the bump.  My pants are getting tighter every day and I know it won't be long before I'll have to try the rubber band trick.  I need to find some long shirts or a band for my pants if I do that.

I started a new job on Monday, and the only unfortunate part is that I have to wear business casual Monday through Thursday (I could wear jeans everyday at my prior job) and almost none of my dress pants fit anymore!  They have a lot less stretch than jeans. :-/  So the plan is to wear dresses until I figure out this rubber band thing with my dress pants.  I'm really excited about my new job other than that though!  I now have my own office and only have to work half days on Fridays!  Woohoo!

In other pregnancy news, I now have to deal with going to the bathroom more often!  I didn't notice much of a difference until last week.  I've been having to get up during the night which really stinks and makes me feel more tired in the morning.  Also, it's not too often, but every once in awhile I will feel like I have to go literally 2 minutes after I went.  Sorry if that is TMI, hehe. #pregnancyproblems

In better news, I have much more energy and have been more consistent with working out.  My skin is looking a thousand times better than it did just a few weeks ago too, which makes me very happy.

The baby is supposed to double in size in the next few weeks, so I'm a little nervous about how that's going to go!  I'll be lathering up my stomach in lotion and shea butter and cocoa butter to do my best to prevent stretch marks!  Haha.  :)

Purple Maxi Dress

I haven't wanted to commit to buying any maternity clothes yet, but I know that time is quickly coming!  I found a couple of maxi dresses when we visited the outlet mall in San Marcos a couple weekends ago.  The comfortable, stretchy material makes maxi dresses ideal for pregnancy and this one should hopefully fit my belly as it gets bigger.

This dress is sleeveless, so I added a blazer to dress it up and make it work appropriate.

The dress without the jacket:

Red, White and Blue

I think I've said this before, but I love dressing up for holidays and special occasions!  The 4th of July is no exception!  I've been wearing a lot of red, white and blue lately with cheering on the USA in the World Cup.  How exciting is it that we've made it to the Round of 16, especially since they didn't give us a chance to make it out of the group of death!  Today we play Belgium ~ it is going to be a tough matchup.  I really hope we play way better than we did against Germany!

I even have stars and stripes covered with this outfit. :)

Check in tomorrow for 2 more patriotic outfit ideas!
