This week's Thrift Style Thursday theme is nautical. I remember last year when the nautical theme really seemed to grow in popularity. Stripes and anchors and sailboats were everywhere. I thought it was all so cute, but I wasn't sure whether I should get anything as I felt it might be a fleeting trend. The stripes were obviously a safe bet, but what about the anchors and sailboats? I didn't want to get something that I wouldn't wear a couple months later. Well, I came across this really cute striped anchor top at The Limited and scored it for less than $10! It was on sale for 40% off and I had a $15 reward that I put toward it. I figured a less than $10 investment on a trend was a safe bet. I've actually worn this shirt more often than I thought I would. It's so comfortable and flattering with the 3/4 length sleeves and pairs great with a fitted blazer.

This marks the third week where I've done kind of an unconventional thrifty look. Being thrifty doesn't always mean checking out the local thrift stores. It can be inheriting something from a friend or sibling (like my
cocktail dress 2 weeks ago), borrowing clothes like my
boho chic look last week (that's especially great for something like a fancy special events dress where you'd most likely never wear it again), or scoring something new at a discounted price. I tend to shop sales and use rewards/coupons whenever I can to make my dollar stretch as far as possible. :)

You're probably wondering what's going on with this background. I live in a very artsy part of town and there is a walking trail near my house that features a few interesting pieces of art. I believe this doubles as a bird feeder, but it's a buried church steeple or something like that. It looks kind of like a sinking ship at first glance, so I thought it would go with the nautical theme, haha. A change of background once in awhile is nice too. :) Not far from here is a large dog sculpture ~ perhaps that will make an appearance in a future post.
This scarf was a gift from one of my best friends. It has little anchors on it! It was also seen in this
post. The bag is from high school ~ I think it's like 15 years old! I call it my beach bag since it has bamboo handles and palm trees on it. The earrings I got in a sample sale for $3. I think this is one of my thriftiest outfits to date and ironically, nothing came from a thrift store. I plan on hitting up some thrift stores this weekend though so I'm sure next week's TST will have something from that shopping trip!
I tried to do the whole tie a scarf around the purse look, but it didn't quite turn out as good as I hoped. Oh well, haha. :)
