Pregnancy Update: Weeks 31 - 33

I am finally down to single digit weeks left.  It is unreal.  Everything is still going along pretty well.  Her kicks have gotten more powerful and her feet are right where my muscle tear is on my right side; and wouldn't you know, that seems to be her favorite place to kick. :(  Usually it's not too bad but every once in a while she will do a hard kick that catches me off-guard and it hurts!

We had another ultrasound between 31 and 32 weeks.  It is crazy how much bigger she looks and with all the added fat her face is starting to look more like a baby face and not a skeleton.  The growth looked good, but the doc is still having me get one more ultrasound this week just to make sure.  I shouldn't complain that I've had to get so many ultrasounds because it's awesome to see her so often, but it's annoying to schedule the appointments and take the extra time for them.  And I think it's fairly obvious from my stomach that she is still growing, haha.

I finally got a prenatal massage over Thanksgiving weekend.  It was awesome!  I noticed the next day that my legs were almost back to normal with no signs of swelling too!  The swelling has been minimal, so it wasn't a drastic difference, but it was still nice to see them looking better.

I mentioned in my last post that I was looking for a doula.  I found one and I am so excited about it.  She comes highly recommended and her specialty is massage (hallelujah!).  I had never heard of a doula before becoming pregnant.  I remember reading an article about pregnancy after I had just found out I was expecting and it mentioned something about a doula.  It wasn't much information and my curiosity took over and I googled it.  At first I thought it sounded like some weird thing a hippie would use at birth (no offense to hippies, but you get my drift, ha), but the more I read about doulas, the less skeptical I became.  I tucked that info away in the back of my mind as something to look into later in the pregnancy.  Then I began hearing about doulas randomly through friends of friends, when they'd mention how awesome they were on Facebook and how they couldn't imagine giving birth without one.  I kept hearing more and more positive things about them that finally I knew that I wanted a doula to help me survive labor.  Plus, they are great with helping the spouse know what to do to help his wife during labor, and I think my hubby could benefit from that. :)  I will definitely be sharing my opinion on how it goes with the doula when everything is done.

The last couple of days I think I have experienced some Braxton Hicks contractions.  They can start occurring as early as 30 weeks (and sometimes earlier) and are believed to help your body practice for the real thing.  They don't hurt and it feels like my stomach is tightening during them.  I thought it was the baby moving the first few times I felt them, but then it dawned on me that it was BH contractions.  It really is no big deal though, at least right now since they have only happened a couple times a day.  I heard that they occur more often as you get closer to your due date and can get really annoying.  We shall see.

One last thing to mention is that I think baby girl has finally moved to the head down position.  For the entire pregnancy she has been laying in a transverse position (left to right instead of up and down, if that makes sense) and so I would feel her kicks and arm movements on the sides of my belly.  It was also the reason the ultrasound technicians were having a hard time getting accurate measurements on her growth.  The last couple of days she has been pushing hard on my right side and it was very uncomfortable, especially with the muscle tear on that side.  I thought it felt like she might be turning but I wasn't sure.  Then yesterday morning I noticed the movements were more at the top and bottom of my belly instead of the sides and my belly was less wide (kinda weird).  It's great because I felt like she was getting too big to be laying transverse and that my belly wouldn't stretch out that wide any more!  Haha.  I will be able to confirm her position at the ultrasound this Friday.  I just hope she is head down and not breach, but I'm pretty sure she is because I have felt hiccups in the lower part of my belly.

Wow, this post turned into a novel!  I will save the rest for the next post. :)  Also, the next post will contain pictures of the nursery!  It's not quite done yet, but it's coming together quite nicely and I can't wait to share.  That gives you something to look forward to in the next pregnancy post!

White Shirt + Leopard

Happy almost Thanksgiving!  I am so excited to celebrate with family and eat lots of good food in a couple days!  Are any of you planning on shopping on Black Friday?  It was always my favorite day to get some Christmas shopping done and also get a few items that were on my wishlist that were now at a super discounted price.  Sadly, I'm not doing any shopping for myself this year unless it's a baby item on sale.  Oh, how my priorities have changed! :)

I'll put together a round up of my favorite sales from the places I normally shop, along with items from my wishlist that I would get if I wasn't preggers, and post them on Thursday (in case you need some shopping inspiration).

One of the maternity pieces that I thought was worth investing in was a crisp white button up for work.  It can be worn so many different ways by simply adding a different (non-maternity) cardigan or sweater over top.  I added a belt to make it seem less bulky on my small frame.  I also invested in a nice pair of black pants for work.  Since they are classic and go with just about anything (and since I wanted to save money and only bought a couple pairs of maternity work pants), I've worn them regularly on repeat (sometimes even twice a week) and no one's the wiser.

What I'm Wearing
Shirt ~ GAP Maternity (Regular version here)
Cardigan ~ WHBM (similar)
Pants ~ A Pea in the Pod (similar non-maternity)
Necklace ~ GAP (similar)
Earrings ~ Park Lane (cute option here)
Belt ~ Limited (similar)
Purse ~ Limited
Shoes ~ DSW (similar)

#MonthlyMani: Black Tie

Welcome back to the monthly edition of fun manicures!  This month's theme was black tie, aka black and white.  Once again I had to do something a little off the wall with my nails. :)  I also added a touch of red because it just goes so well with black and white.

These are the nail polishes that I used.

I started with a white base.  Honestly I wasn't too sure what the plan was for the design, and so I ended up doing a little something different on each nail.  It makes it more interesting that way, don't you agree?  Haha.  The skinny brush that came with the black polish really makes it easy to do fun designs on my nails.

I think I like my middle finger design the best.  I call it "the chicken foot" hahaha.

I added the top coat and cleaned up around the nails and there you have it!  Fun nails that surprisingly didn't take that long to do.

Be sure to take a peek at what the rest of the gang did for their black tie nails!

Layers: Vest + Jacket

A few weeks ago we went up to NY to visit family.  The trip was great and it was the first time in years that I was up there during fall when the leaves were changing.  It was beautiful and I miss experiencing this time of year.  It was a bit colder than we were expecting, so I was glad to have the different layers to wear together to stay warm (especially since I can't zip up my jacket over my belly, haha)!  In addition to giving the outfit a fun layered look, the blue vest under the jacket also gave it another pop of color.

What I'm Wearing
Shirt - Limited
Vest - Columbia (similar)
Scarf - WHBM
Jacket - Victoria's Secret
Jeans - WHBM
Boots - Ugg
Purse - Kate Spade

#TBT ~ Colorful

This is really funny - I was looking through my blog postings for some stats and I came across this post that I had started back in July but never published!  I don't know what happened, whether I was distracted or just plain forgot (maybe I can blame this on pregnancy brain since it was about a month after I found out I was expecting, haha).  But anyways, here it is, as a #ThrowBackThursday if you will.  I was about 2 months along at this point but not really showing. :)

Striped Maxi with Chambray

When I put this outfit together in my head, I was really hoping I could pull it off because none of this clothing is maternity!  While I have finally embraced maternity clothing and am consistently wearing it, I still like to work in the chunky sweaters and stretchy tops that still fit the bump somehow.  I still plan on wearing items from my pre-preggers wardrobe as long as they will fit, to give me more options.  The chambray button-up definitely wouldn't fit if I had to button it, but it works like this over another top! :)

What I'm Wearing
Top ~ Target (similar)
Chambray Button-Up ~ WHBM (almost identical here)
Maxi Skirt ~ Limited
Flats ~ cathy (similar)
Earrings ~ Park Lane (super cute option for under $10)
Necklace ~ Groopdealz (similar here and here)

Leopard and Feathers

Happy Labor Day friends!  How many of you took advantage of the awesome sales going on this weekend?  I wanted to get some more maternity wear but I am out of town.  Oh well, there will always be another sale. :)

I tell ya, dresses are my thing now.  That's about all I wear to work now.  It's funny how certain dresses with a well-placed belt and cardigan will completely hide my bump on a frontal view.  It's definitely still noticeable from the side!

I played off the lacy pattern on the dress with my ridiculously small purse. :)

What I'm Wearing
Dress ~ WHBM (kind of similar dress here with cool stripes and eyelet cutouts)
Belt ~ Steve Madden (similar)
Cardigan ~ WHBM
Purse ~ Victoria's Secret
Necklace ~ ?? (similar)
Bracelets ~ Stella & Dot and Guess (similar for under $5)
Shoes ~ Two Lips

Striped Maxi

Well, as I suspected in earlier posts, I finally had to cave in and buy some maternity clothes over the weekend.  I only got a couple things, and I know I will have to get more soon.  I'm still trying to get the most out of my current closet though and holding out as long as possible before I actually wear any of the maternity clothes I bought.  I don't know why I am being so weird about it.  Haha.  Anyways, before I feature any of the maternity clothes, here is another maxi dress that is a great transition piece that will hopefully last me through most of the pregnancy.

What I'm Wearing
Maxi Dress ~ WHBM (similar)
Cardigan ~ Limited (similar)
Necklace ~ Shop Lately
Bracelets ~ Stella & Dot and Henri Bendel

TST: Mad About Plaid

It's been awhile since I've posted a Thrift Style Thursday post!  Between the new job and my expanding waistline, it's been a little difficult to find time and clothes that fit the themes, ha.  Since I found out I was pregnant, I haven't let myself buy anything that I couldn't wear with a bigger belly.  So I missed a few weeks since I didn't have anything for the TST themes.  I've only bought 2 maxi dresses and a maxi skirt since May.  It's been difficult, but good in the long run.  However, I really think it's about time to start looking into maternity wear.

These pants aren't thrifted but I got them on clearance for about $15 at The Limited (to be honest I was surprised they still fit) and the top is from Ross.  Since the top is loose it almost hides the bump!

Oh hey, there's the bump ;-)

What I'm Wearing
Top ~ Ross
Pants ~ Limited
Shoes ~ Steve Madden
Necklace ~ Park Lane
Bracelets ~ Stella & Dot, Guess, and WHBM
Bag ~ Kate Spade

Check out how the other ladies showed off their plaid!

Weeks 16 and 17: Embracing the Bump!

Since I missed last week's update, here's a look at the last 2 weeks.  I can no longer hide the bump.  My pants are getting tighter every day and I know it won't be long before I'll have to try the rubber band trick.  I need to find some long shirts or a band for my pants if I do that.

I started a new job on Monday, and the only unfortunate part is that I have to wear business casual Monday through Thursday (I could wear jeans everyday at my prior job) and almost none of my dress pants fit anymore!  They have a lot less stretch than jeans. :-/  So the plan is to wear dresses until I figure out this rubber band thing with my dress pants.  I'm really excited about my new job other than that though!  I now have my own office and only have to work half days on Fridays!  Woohoo!

In other pregnancy news, I now have to deal with going to the bathroom more often!  I didn't notice much of a difference until last week.  I've been having to get up during the night which really stinks and makes me feel more tired in the morning.  Also, it's not too often, but every once in awhile I will feel like I have to go literally 2 minutes after I went.  Sorry if that is TMI, hehe. #pregnancyproblems

In better news, I have much more energy and have been more consistent with working out.  My skin is looking a thousand times better than it did just a few weeks ago too, which makes me very happy.

The baby is supposed to double in size in the next few weeks, so I'm a little nervous about how that's going to go!  I'll be lathering up my stomach in lotion and shea butter and cocoa butter to do my best to prevent stretch marks!  Haha.  :)

Purple Maxi Dress

I haven't wanted to commit to buying any maternity clothes yet, but I know that time is quickly coming!  I found a couple of maxi dresses when we visited the outlet mall in San Marcos a couple weekends ago.  The comfortable, stretchy material makes maxi dresses ideal for pregnancy and this one should hopefully fit my belly as it gets bigger.

This dress is sleeveless, so I added a blazer to dress it up and make it work appropriate.

The dress without the jacket:

Obligatory bump pictures :)
